Blogging for Beginners

Page history last edited by BlackTabi 14 years, 3 months ago

Full Description

If you've always wanted to have a blog, but aren't sure where to start or if you know enough "techy stuff", this class is for you. Blogging can be as easy as writing a text document on your computer once you've got everything set up, and by the end of this class you'll know everything you need to know to set up your blog.

We'll cover:

  • registering and configuring your blog on Wordpress
  • writing posts
  • adding images from Flickr
  • Q&A about blogging

If time permits:

  • Add fun widgets (like a link to your Ravelry profile, your flickr photos or links to other blogs you read)

If you bring a laptop computer with wireless capability, your blog will be set up and ready to go by the end of class!

Skills Needed

  • Basic Computer Skills (if you can type, have an internet connection and a web browser, you're set!)

Materials Needed

  • an email address you can use to sign up for Wordpress and Flickr accounts if you do not already have them.
  • Recommended: a laptop with wireless capability so that you can follow along in class and set up your blog as we go.

If you don't wish to bring a laptop, I'll be posting a tutorial right here on this page so that you can remind yourself of the material from class as you set up your blog at home.

Me, too. When is it scheduled?

I believe the schedule won't actually be set until Saturday morning (a couple teachers have put their names on the schedule already due to their own time constraints, I think), but if you have a time that's really great or really bad for you I'll try to work with that when we make the schedule on Saturday :)

I've been a bit confused about the timing of events but if I haven't double booked myself I'll come to this.

Hoping to join this session. Would love to know the actual time to plan to be there. I'll keep checking the schedule.

Interested! But you knew that.

Looks like sessions 1, 6 and 7 would have little to no conflicts for anyone who has expressed an interest in blogging so far. Any preferences for early saturday, mid-day sunday or afternoon sunday?

Saturday would be good for me.

I also prefer Saturday--session 1 works for me.

I'd like to do this but don't have wireless so I'll be just watching -- is that okay?

It looks like I won't be able to arrive in time to attend this one--sorry!

Liz- You made it look so easy!
And with your excellent instruction, I found it was simple enough to get started with a blog that even I could.
Thanks so much for sharing your skills.
