Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is an un-conference

An un-conference is an informal conference where the attendees contribute to the creation of content and format of the event, becoming partocipants with the community instead of just attendees of an event. The first un-conference,  BarCamp, was held in 2005.

At FiberCamp Boston we encourage participants to sign up for programming slots before the event. participants contribute what do they want to learn, what can they want to share, and how they can help. Participants decide that they have something to share... a simple trick, a full scale lecture about something you are passionate about... How to spin strange yarns? how to felt to cotton? how to steek? how to choose colors?  Types of yarn? Marketing in the yarn world?  Math for knitters? Knitting for wool allergies? Design tips? Writing patterns? using powertools to enhance your spinning?  Growing and harvesting quiviut?  Textiles from all over the world?

ANYTHING!  FiberCamp happens because of you!

While loosely structured, there are rules at an unconference. All attendees are encouraged to present or facilitate a session. However this can be intimidating for some people.  Everyone is also asked to share information and experiences of the event, both live and after the fact, via public web channels including (but not limited to) blogging, photo sharing, social bookmarking, twittering, wiki-ing. This open encouragement to share everything about the event is in deliberate contrast to the "off the record by default" and "no recordings" rules at many private invite-only participant driven conferences. ~GS

What is the Common Cod Fiber Guild

The Common Cod Fiber Guild is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that seeks to create a fun and supportive environment for learning and participating in fiber activities.  Meetings occur bimonthly on the second Friday of odd numbered months.  We will always do our best to incorporate and support our local yarn shops, producers, dyers, and artisans. They are an integral part of our fiber community. ~GS

If I want to join Common Cod Fiber Guild may I bring my registration form and fee with me to Fiber Camp and then register as a member on the Event Brite Site?

Yes, you may. ~RG (with help from) GS

Where can I park?

The official address of the MIT Buildings 4 and 6 is 182 Memorial Drive.  There is a public parking lot at the corner of Vassar and Mass Ave, as well as on street parking.  (bring quarters... parking is $1.00/hour).  Certain MIT parking lots are open to the public free of charge on weekends.  Check this link for the list of these lots, as well as other parking garages in the area. ~AN

Re: parking. On Sundays especially there are usually lots of free meter spaces on Albany Street, and some on Ames St if you get there before 10:00 or so.

I am an indie dyer and am interested in being a vendor. Can you tell me more about that?
