From Words to Charts and Back Again

Hands On - 45 min - with Beth Katcher

 

Does your pattern only have charts and you are a confirmed non-chart-reader? Or the reverse -- do you find yourself wishing a pattern had a chart? Are you afraid of charts? Have you ever heard of knitting from a chart? If you can answer "yes" to any of these questions, this session may be for you!

 

• In this hands-on session we'll go over some easy examples of how to create and read charts. Then we'll examine a couple of situations where the process falls apart and look at techniques for fixing those charts.

 

• We'll also look at tools for charting -- both high-tech and low-tech.

 

• Finally, in the process of working with the charts I hope to convey some of the usefulness of charts to those of you who have chart-phobia.

 

You will need a couple of pencils with good erasers and graph paper. I'll bring extra graph paper, but you're on your own with respect to the pencils.

 

Please comment below if you are interested in attending this session. My plan is to teach one class at FiberCamp. It will either be this one of a class on comparing different techniques for casting on, binding off, and increasing/decreasing. So I'm going to count comments and decide based on participant interest.
